11 water theft cases in Kot Addu

MUZAFFARGARH: Eleven water theft cases have been registered in Muzaffargarh in an ongoing campaign by the irrigation chief engineer of Dera Ghazi Khan division.

Kot Addu Executive Engineer (EXEN) Kamran and Sub-Division Officer Umer Farooq held surprise visits at Lower Kot Wah and found illegal outlets while tail-end farmers were short of canal water.

Dozens of farmers tried to resist the irrigation teams, but officials closed illegal outlets and gave instructions to the police station for the registration of cases against water thieves.

The EXEN said the chief engineer ordered him to remove illegal outlets. Earlier, 16 cases were registered against farmers for water theft.

Chief Engineer irrigation Syed Sajid Rizvi said the campaign would continue against those involved in water theft and irresponsible officials.

DROWNS: A minor boy drowned in the Tulheri canal when the three family members riding a motorcycle fell into the canal near Thatta Sial, some 15 km from the city area, on Monday.

The motorcycle riders were Sultan and his wife and minor son. As the woman and the son were rescued by locals, the strong current of the canal swept away Sultan. After a two-hour operation, the body was retrieved.
