From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1947: Seventy-five years ago: Prosperous Pakistan

(EDITORIAL) …In the hope that at this stage it might yet be possible to frustrate the fulfillment of Pakistan, [Congress economic] pundits have lately been portraying a depressing picture of Pakistan’s economics. They suggest that Pakistan would be economically unsound and would ever remain a land of poverty… . Other pugnacious Hindus have even gone to the length of holding out the threat to Muslims that Hindustan would effect an economic blockade of Pakistan thereby bringing its inhabitants to their knees. That would, in turn, they try to reason with themselves, hasten the collapse of its weak structure.

As a matter of fact, the opponents of Pakistan are … furiously at work in that direction. Several instances of flight of Hindu capital from Pakistan have recently been reported. That need alarm nobody. It has got ample resources lavished upon by a bounteous Nature. Such minor financial blizzards will hardly affect its economic fabric.

We are glad to note that some of the British economists and economic journals have sought, for the first time, to survey the economics of Pakistan objectively. All of them have, however, unanimously arrived at the conclusion that the Homeland of Muslims would be … economically sound.
