Peshawar hospital receives modern equipment

PESHAWAR: The UN refugee agency handed over critical and advanced medical equipment to the radiology department of Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) to strengthen delivery of health services in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

A statement issued here on Thursday said that the European Union provided funds for the equipment. The equipment, which includes a state-of-the-art CT scanner, would benefit both refugees and host communities.

The equipment was handed over at a ceremony attended by the hospital medical team, and representatives of UNHCR and European Union.

UNHCR’s head of office in Peshawar Gayrat Ahmadshoev delivered the essential equipment, which would speed up the diagnostic tests carried out on patients in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The statement said that the CT scanner would provide high-resolution images with low doses of radiation and allow scans to be performed on 30 to 40 patients a day.

The contribution would enhance the capacity of radiology department to deliver efficient and high-quality diagnostic and therapeutic services, and ease pressure on public services, through the European Union’s programme of support.

In addition to the CT scanner for HMC, the European Union also funded critical equipment for thalassaemia unit, including refrigerators, plasma extractors, transfusion chairs and blood bank centrifuges besides equipment for gastroenterology unit such as endoscopy ultrasound and scanning systems.
