Matric exams for over 365,000 Karachi students begin today

KARACHI: Starting Tuesday (today), more than 365,000 students will be appearing for their Secondary School Certificate (SSC), Matric Part-I and Part-II, science, general group, regular and private examinations under the Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) at 448 examination centres all over the 18 towns of the city.

Of the 448 examination centres, 253 are dedicated for male and 195 for female students. These have been set up in 285 private schools and 163 government schools. Besides, there will also be some 20 examination centre hubs in all the 18 towns of Karachi where BSEK officials will be looking over affairs.

There are also some 29 prisoners appearing for their class nine and 10 exams behind bars from prison.

Section 144 of the criminal procedure code would be imposed outside the all the examination centres on the request of BSEK chairman Syed Sharaf Ali Shah to the inspector general of police, who said that there will be a restriction on the use of photocopy machines, scanners and mobile phones outside the examination centres.

Some 16 examination centres are also being seen as sensitive centres.

The question papers this year will have 40 per cent multiple choice questions, 40pc short-answer questions and 20pc questions with lengthy detailed answers.

The invigilators appointed by the BSEK will be on rotation. Each invigilator will be expected to submit his or her report on a daily basis. Besides this, the invigilators will also have powers equivalent to school principals.

It is also said that K-Electric has been written to by the BSEK to not carry out loadshedding in the vicinity of the examination centres.

All the candidates have been supplied with computerised admit cards. For more information, there is the BSEK website www.bsek.edu.pk which has also been updated for the candidates to refer to in case of any confusion. Later, their mark sheets will also carry the candidate’s photographs along with their roll numbers.
