Two killed in robberies in twin cities

ISLAMABAD: Two persons were murdered during robberies in twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Monday, police said.

In the first incident, armed men intercepted a lawyer Khurram Akbar in Golra and deprived him of his car, cash and two mobile phones.

When he put up resistance the robbers opened fire on him, killing him on the spot and escaped with the car and other looted items.

In Rawalpindi, a man who tried to intercept robbers fleeing with Rs2 million cash they had snatched from another man in Sadiqabad was gunned down by the culprits in broad daylight on Monday.

City Police Officer Omer Saeed Malik along with SSP Operation and SP CIA visited the crime scene and constituted a police team to trace the culprits and recover the cash.

Initial police report suggested that Rashid Mehmood was on his way home after withdrawing Rs2 million from a commercial bank when two armed men who came on a motorcycle took him at gunpoint and snatched a cash bag and fled.

On hearing screams of the robbery victim, a large number of residents of the areas came out of their homes. Hanif Abbasi, one of the residents of the area, threw a brick on the robbers to stop them.

Umair Abbasi, son of the deceased said in the FIR that when his father attempted to stop the culprits one of of them sitting on the pillion, opened fire which hit his father in the chest and abdomen.

He said his father died while being shifted to Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH).

Panic and fear gripped the area as a large number of people gathered around the crime scene on hearing the gunshots.

Later, police teams with forensic experts visited the crime scene and collected evidence. Body of the victim was shifted to hospital for postmortem.
