‘TTP militant’ held, explosives seized

KARACHI: Police on Friday claimed to have arrested a suspected militant linked with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and recovered explosives.

They said acting on a tip-off Malir Cantonment SHO carried out a raid and arrested Mir Sardar Khan, who originally hailed from district Tank and was presently residing in Orangi Town.

The police claimed that he belonged to the TTP and had been involved in different terrorism acts in the country, including the deadly attack on a FC fort in Tank in which 10 FC personnel were martyred.

They further added that the held suspect joined the TTP in 2003 and was an active member of the organisation.

During initial probe, he revealed to have carried out an attack on the office of an NGO in Dera Ismail Khan in 2007. “He is fully trained in preparing IEDs [improvised explosive devices] and installing it,” said an official.

The police claimed to have recovered five packets containing explosives, one battery, one small packet of ball-bearings and wires.

The police registered a case against the suspect under the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997 and Explosive Substance Act, and further interrogation was under way.

Youth shot dead

A 23-year-old man was shot dead over some personal enmity in Orangi Town on Friday, according to police.

They added that Shahid was killed near Baloch Hotel.

West SSP Suhai Aziz said the murder appeared to be an outcome of a family dispute over some matrimonial issue.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital to fulfil medico-legal formalities.
