Tenant kills woman shop owner

TOBA TEK SINGH: A medicine trader allegedly killed the shop owner by setting her ablaze when she demanded that the outlet at Tariqabad in Faisalabad be vacated on Friday.

According to the FIR registered under sections 302 and 336 B of PPC, Muhammad Umer said Muzammil Shahzad had obtained on rent his mother Robina Bibi’s shop where he was running a medical store.

He said some people complained to his mother that Shahzad was selling narcotics over which she asked the trader to vacate the shop.

This led to a clash between the shop owner and the tenant, he said. After an exchange of harsh words, he said, Shahzad followed her mother by his car and sprayed petrol on her clothes and set her ablaze. Critically injured, the woman was taken to the Allied Hospital by a Rescue 1122 ambulance but she succumbed to her burns.

Police conducted raids to arrest the suspect.

Rescue 1122 personnel said a woman was going somewhere when a motorcyclist opened fire on her as a result of which she died.

UAF POSTAL FACILITY: A state-of-the-art building of Pakistan Post has been established at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, to facilitate the campus community.

The building at the UAF Bank Square was inaugurated by Post Master General Central Punjab Irum Tariq. UAF Treasurer Umer Saeed Qadri, Principal Officer Prof Dr Jalal Arif, Chief Post Master Faisalabad Shahid Iqbal and Principal Officer Engineering and Construction Department Dr Muhammad Arshad were also present.

Ms Tariq said Pakistan Post was providing postal services in every nook and corner of the country through a network of around 13,000 post offices.

It provided delivery services to about 20 million households and businesses as community service without any cost considerations, she said.

She said the normal post delivery time was not more than seven days. She said Pakistan Post was also providing a universal postal service network with the Universal Postal Union (UPU) strategy to ensure secure and timely delivery of mail, money and material at affordable cost.

Treasurer Umer Saeed said the university was taking all possible measures to facilitate the campus community. He said the university housed more than 30,000 students for which a post office was a must.

MOU: The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will offer 10 per cent concession on international and 15pc on domestic flights to Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) members and their families.

In this regard, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by FCCI President Atif Munir Sheikh and PIA District Manager Shahid Hussain on Friday, says a press release.

This MoU will remain effective till Dec 31.
