OUT OF THE BOX
OUT OF THE BOX: This is with reference to the editorial ‘How is FBR helping?’ (Feb 2) which has rightly stated that “the entire tax regime is rigged in favour of powerful lobbies…” Since the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is finding it impossible to collect the target revenue, the government should appoint smugglers as tax collectors, as it is well-known that smugglers are the most powerful, disciplined and organised group of tax- evaders. They will easily be able to exceed targets given to the FBR. As the saying goes, ‘if you can’t beat them, join them!’

BAN THE GAME: The murder of four family members in an apartment in Lahore was shocking, but even more shocking is the fact that a teenager addicted to the violent online game, PlayerUnknown’s Battle-Grounds (PUBG), was the culprit. Due to addiction to such games, the social problems have multiplied in the recent past. The recent incident has only highlighted the need to put curbs on such games.

INTELLECTUAL GROWTH: We cannot compare our youth with those in the developed world because no educational institution here cares about the students’ intellectual growth. As society, we have never worked on the mental and social growth of our students. If we want our youth to be better, it is necessary that we work on intellectual growth instead of merely focussing on the academics.

NUISANCE: Even though the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has come to an end as far as Karachi is concerned, there is always the next year, and some international teams are expected to land in the country and might play a game or two in the city. As such the authorities need to be reminded once again that the location of the National Stadium in a thickly populated zone means traffic arrangements have to be done rather carefully.
