Month-long cleanliness drive launched

RAWALPINDI: On the directives of the Punjab government, a cleanliness drive was launched in the city on Friday which will continue till the end of next month.

The clean-up operation and awareness campaign was launched by the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC).

RWMC Managing Director Awais Manzoor Tarrar visited the garrison city to inspect the campaign and asked the workers to keep the city neat and clean.

He also distributed pamphlets to create awareness among the residents and asked them not to dump garbage on streets and roads. He urged the citizens to dump garbage in designated areas.

RWMC teams met prayer leaders and requested them to inform people about cleanliness during Friday prayers. Pamphlets were also distributed among the worshipers after Friday prayers.

Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) also started cleaning sewage lines in Satellite Town.

Wasa Managing Director Raja Shaukat Mehmood said the drive would help clean the sewerage system ahead of the summer season.

He said that the civic agency had already cleaned Leh Nullah last year and on the instructions of the government the agency would also start cleaning the nullah ahead of the monsoon season.

Meanwhile, Divisional Commissioner Noorul Amin Mengal said the cleanliness drive had been launched in all the four districts of the Rawalpindi division.

He asked all the departments to make the month-long campaign successful.
