ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) during a fortnight fined 18,211 public service vehicles (PSVs) involved in non-completion of routes, misbehaviour with passengers and overloading.

“Strict action will be taken against transporters violating traffic routes. The purpose is to provide better traffic facilities to the citizens,” said Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Mazhar Iqbal while reviewing a report submitted by the special squads.

According to a statement, the Islamabad Traffic Police is utilising all resources to facilitate the general public and not only issuing tickets to the PSVs for overcharging, misbehaviour of driver/conductor and non-completion of route but also canceling the driving licence of the PSV drivers found repeatedly involved in same violation.

As many as 4,759 trucks, 1,841 buses, 2,022 pick-ups, 2,061 passenger vans, 225 cabs and 2,767 other PSVs were fined this year.

On the directions of IGP Mohammad Ahsan Younis, the SSP traffic said, special squads has already been constituted to check route violations and a traffic helpline (051-9261992,93) established to resolve public grievances on time.

He said the citizens can lodge their complaints regarding non-completion of routes, misbehaviour by drivers or other traffic related issues at this helpline.
