Protest against patient’s death at Services

LAHORE: The attendants of a patient, who died at the Services Hospital on Friday, protested the alleged negligence of doctors. Hospital doctors and guards, however, beat them for protesting on the hospital premises.

A footage of the incident showed that Hamid, 30, of Samanabad, walked to the counter of the emergency ward, got the slip and went to the bed for treatment. The family says he was suffering from pain in the body.

He remained unattended for an hour or so and then he died, according to the clip.

Some witnesses said after the patient’s death, the family raised slogans against doctors and the administration.

At this, some doctors reportedly thrashed them and later the security staff dragged them to a room of the ward, and beat them. The attendants remained hostage in the room for 30 minutes.

The situation turned ugly when duty doctors changed the admission record of the deceased patient.

The family alleges the patient got the admission slip at 5:52am but the doctors again got issued a slip showing 6:43am the time of the issue of the slip.

A senior official of the hospital’s administration said an inquiry into the incident was ongoing.
