Two arrested with hashish

KOHAT: The Kohat police on Friday arrested two drug traffickers along with hashish they were trying to smuggle from Hangu to Punjab.

A statement issued here said a police team led by SHO Cantonment Ayatullah Babar started checking vehicles coming from Hangu at the Kaghazai checkpost on a tip-off that smugglers would try to carry hashish through Kohat.

The policemen stopped a suspicious vehicle, and during checking, found 24 kilogrammes of hashish hidden on the back of it.

The smugglers were identified as Ismail Khan of Kurram and Abdul Hameed Khan of Hangu.

COMMITTEE FORMED: Deputy commissioner Roshan Mehsud on Friday constituted a committee to seal the coal mines in the Darra Adamkhel tribal subdivision violating the safety SOPs.

The decision was taken at a meeting, which was also attended by additional deputy commissioner Bashir Ahmed, assistant commissioner, Kohat, Mohammad Atif Jalib and other relevant officials.

Mr Mehsud ordered the committee members to visit the mines and meet with the managers and owners to ensure implementation of the safety measures like equipping the workers with all the necessary gadgets, checking of conveyor belts, and stopping mining when weather conditions were harsh.
