Wild boars sighted in Peshawar suburbs

PESHAWAR: The wildlife department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has taken notice of reports about sighting of a herd of wild boars in a suburban locality of Peshawar and sent a team for verification.

Wildlife Peshawar DFO Mohammad Niaz said that they had sent their teams soon after receiving reports about sighting of wild boars near a graveyard of Palosi area.

He said that in one video wild boars were seen roaming on a dump of solid waste. He said that local people apprised them that a herd of wild boars was noticed near the graveyard area, which was surprising for them.

Certain marks along with some burrows dug up by the animal were also found at the site mentioned by the people.

After taking the local people into confidence, the wildlife department officials decided to keep baits and snares for capturing the animals.

Mr Niaz said that the people were also advised to take measures for removal of the solid waste which attracted the animals and put some barricades outside vegetated areas to discourage them.
