Bail plea rejected in attempted assault case

PESHAWAR: A child protection court on Tuesday turned down the bail plea of a young man charged with attempting to assault an 11-year-old girl on the outskirts of the provincial capital a few days ago.

The judge ruled that the offence with which the petitioner, Mohammad Imran, was charged was heinous having a lifelong impression over the girl child, thus he could not be given concession of bail.

The Sarband police had registered an FIR against the suspect on December 24, 2021 under section 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of PPC and section 53 (child sexual abuse) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Child Protection and Welfare Act.

The victim was returning home after delivering lunch to her paternal uncles working in fields when the suspect allegedly caught hold of her and took her to a nearby field. While attempting to assault her he also warned to kill her if she raised an alarm.

However, when she raised hue and cry her uncles and other people rushed to the spot and overpowered the suspect. They later handed him over to the police.

The victim’s medical report said she had injuries on her face, right ankle and an ear.
