A great challenge

THIS is with reference to the report ‘Forensic firm urges permission to share tape scandal’s result’ (Nov 23) and all the subsequent reports related to the leaked audio tape allegedly carrying the voice of former chief justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar. The incident is a massive challenge to the institution of judiciary in the country.

I have been a student and observer of history since long, having been a student of law and with vivid childhood memories of the Pakistan Movement, which gave us our homeland even if it was at the cost of the blood of millions of Muslims. I suggest that the sitting chief justice should wash off the black spot on our respectable judiciary either by taking a suo motu notice of the leaked audio or by any other legal means.

As quoted by Ibne Buraida, three types of qazis (justices) have been enumerated; “One, he is of paradise who recognised the truth and gave the judgement accordingly, two, he is infernal who recognised the truth and gave judgement against it, and, three, the one who gave the judgement unknowingly.” The target, as is always the case, should be to get counted among the first of the three categories.
