Health experts advise physical exercise to prevent diabetes

LOWER DIR: Health experts here on Monday termed diabetes a silent killer and advised people to make physical exercise a part of their daily routine to save themselves from the disease.

They were addressing a function organised in connection with World Diabetes Day by Pakistan Endocrine Society in collaboration with a private pharmaceutical company.

The regional health director, Dr Shaukat Ali, the district health officer, Dr Irshad Rughani, Dr Daud Khan and Dr Saeedur Rehman spoke on the occasion. Doctors, nurses, paramedics and local elders attended the event.

The speakers said that diabetes was spreading in all parts of the country. They said that most of the patients of diabetes belonged to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 26 per cent of them belonged to Lower Dir.

They said that people needed awareness and proper guidance about the disease. They said that people had to change their lifestyle, maintain their body weight and make physical exercise a part of their routine to avoid the disease.

FARMERS: The farmers and peasants have demanded immediate reduction in prices of daily use items.

Talking to local journalists in Talash, they said increase in prices of daily use items affected them badly as they were unable to buy fertiliser and wheat seeds.

They said that Pakistan was an agricultural country but people associated with agriculture were not getting any relief.

PML-N: Scores of workers of various parties joined PML-N at a function in Munda area of Jandol.

Speaking on the occasion, MPA Sobia Khan, who was chief guest on the occasion, PML-N provincial vice-president Malik Bahram Shehzada and Javed Akhtar said that government failed to initiate any mega project in Dir.

Political activists including Haji Noor Rehman, Haji Rohullah Shakir, Mir Habib Jan, Mastaq Jan, Aurangzeb Khan, Sher Bahadar and Fazl Hameed along with their families and supporters joined PML-N on the occasion.
