Century-old land dispute settled in South Waziristan

SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: The local administration has resolved a 120-year-old land dispute between Zalikhel and Dotani tribes in South Waziristan tribal district.

Deputy commissioner Khalid Iqbal told mediapersons on Tuesday that the administration had constituted a team headed by an assistant commissioner to resolve the dispute between the tribes. He said the team held negotiations with the elders of the respective tribes.

He said a demarcation line was drawn on the disputed land in Karkena area in light of the documents and map provided by the boundary commission. Both the tribes accepted the demarcation line following which the officials of the district administration set up permanent signposts on the land, he added.

Mr Iqbal said the land dispute had sparked armed clashes between the two tribes, claiming several lives. He said the provincial government had directed to resolve land disputes among the tribes in the district.
