GILGIT: A three-day awareness campaign on breast cancer concluded here the other day.

Rallies, seminars, conferences and workshops were held in government hospitals in Hunza, Nagar, Skardu, Ghizer, Astore, Shigar, Ghanche, Kharmang and Diamer, where medical experts explained the causes of breast cancer and its treatment.

GB health department on the directives of Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid Khan had organised the campaign from Saturday to Monday.

The experts said that 44 per cent of cancer cases in women in Pakistan were related to breast cancer. They said early diagnosis of the disease could give 98 per cent chance of getting rid of the disease.

Medical experts said women were not able to get early diagnosis of the disease because it was a taboo, adding 50 per cent of women with breast cancer lost lives due to lack of early diagnosis and awareness about the disease. They said women should be encouraged to have their examination once in their lives.

Women should follow the advice of their doctors so as to control any dangerous situation at an early stage.
