Saim, Arsalan seal doubles crown

KARACHI: The pair of Saim Adnan and Arsalan Alvi breezed past Aahil Shah and Kaif Raza 3-1 to annex the men’s doubles crown in the eighth Prof Dr Essa Mohammad Abdullah Ranking Table Tennis Tournament at the Sindh Sports Board (SSB) Sports Complex on Tuesday.

The winning pair romped home 11-9, 12-10, 9-11, 12-10 in the final.

The women’s doubles title went to Haiqa Hasan and Hoor Fawad who demolished Sadia Raheel and Hareem Anwar straight 11-7, 11-5, 11-7 in the title clash.

Top seed Hareem Anwar lived up to her billing when she got the better of fourth seed Maria Tazeem 11-5, 8-11, 11-6, 11-7, 9-11, 11-8 to cruise into women’s singles final.

She will be up against unseeded Farah Salman who sent third seed Aisha Yusuf packing 11-5, 11-6, 2-11, 11-5, 11-9 in the other semi-final.

Meanwhile, top seed Saim is on course for a double as he had made it to men’s singles final imposing to 13-11, 12-10, 11-6, 7-11, 11-4 victory over fourth seed Noman Zara in the semi-final.

The second semi-final between third seed Arsalan and unseeded Aahil was in progress at the time of filing this report.

The men’s and women’s singles finals will be played on Wednesday evening.
