Three matches decided on first day

LAHORE: The participation of international ladies is the major attraction at the Lulusar Polo In Pink Tournament which saw three matches decided at the Lahore Polo Club Ground here on Tuesday.

A total of 11 teams are competing in the club’s annual event for social causes. This year the theme is awareness about breast cancer and the first match was dedicated to raise funds for the specialized treatment for the deadly disease.

That encounter saw five goals from Saqib Khan Khakwani helped Guard Group/Black rout Nagina Group 8-5. Taimur Ali Malik also starred with a hat-trick.

For the losing side, Mohammad Ali Malik scored three goals and Omar Ellahi Shaikh banged in a brace.

Three goals by Mumtaz Abbas Niazi inspired Habib Metro Lions to a 5-4 win over Remington Pharma by 5-4. Raffay Sheikh and Abbas Mukhtar chipped in with one goal apiece, while Bilal Noon pumped in two goals while Taimur Noon and Agha Musa struck one goal each.

In another nail-biting finish, Shah Shamyl Alam and Ahmed Bilal Riaz each struck thrice to enable draft a narrow 7½-7 victory for Airlift Eagles against ZS Polo with the winners having a 1½ goal handicap and which ultimately proved decisive.

For the losing side, Raja Arsalan Najeeb fired as many as five goals with Omer Minhas scoring two.
