CORRUPTION CONTINUES

CORRUPTION CONTINUES: A recent Transparency International report says the menace of corruption is still widespread in the country. The government had promised to end, or at least, curb corruption within 90 days. More than 900 days later, there is no end in sight. Is the government not doing what it claims to be doing?

FORCED VACCINATION: The Private Education Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA), while announcing the return to regular school timings, linked the decision with the condition that children aged 12 years and above must be vaccinated against Covid. This does not make sense as the safety data for those under 18 is still being gathered globally. It seems only fair and correct to demand that the voice of parents and legal experts in this regard should be paid due heed to.

FRAUDULENT TACTICS: On Oct 3, while returning to Peshawar from Swabi, I was charged a toll tax of Rs120 on toll plaza exit (non-M tag lane). The young toll collector gave me the receipt which did not have my vehicle number on it, which is mandatory. When I pointed that out, he argued and then called in his supervisor, who actually started abusing me while refusing to reissue a ticket with the vehicle number on it. As I later came to know, these people show Rs30 instead of Rs120 to the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) as toll tax, which is 25 per cent of the actual collection. The authorities concerned should probe the matter.

TESTING CENTRE IN BAJAUR: Thousands of candidates from Bajaur have to travel long distances to reach their examination centres in Chakdara for the Educational Testing and Evaluation Agency (ETEA) tests.

Bajaur is a densely populated tribal district with more than 1.2 million inhabitants. The absence of a test centre is very disappointing and discriminative.
