Resident moves consumer court against Pesco

PESHAWAR: A Peshawar resident has taken the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) to the consumer court over overcharging for consumed units and other issues in the electricity bills.

The court has directed the power utility officials to appear before it on November 1.

Mehmood Jan Babar in his submission before the court has stated that he and other citizens have been facing mental torture due to the Pesco’s irresponsible behaviour. Mr Jan has stated that Pesco high-ups and other officials have failed to properly discharge their duty, which is causing issues for the consumers.

He said he paid the electricity bill for July on August 3, two days ahead of the due date of Aug 5, but it was again included in the August bill and he had to take a day off from work to get the bill corrected, which caused him financial loss.

He stated that in September bill the power utility overcharged him for 843 consumed units at the rate of Rs 29.35 per unit inclusive of taxes. He said he tried to approach the Pesco chief through a notice, but received no reply in two weeks.
