Lawyers protest over price hike

THATTA: Lawyers staged rallies and demonstrations after boycotting court proceedings in a number of Sindh towns on Monday in protest against a sudden hike in the prices of petroleum products, wheat flour and essential commodities.

In Thatta, lawyers took out a procession from sessions court ended it at the same spot after marching on main thoroughfares of the city. A similar protest was organised in Sujawal town.

Lawyers boycotted their work for the entire day at all courts in the two districts. The protest was organised by the Thatta District Bar Association.

DADU: Lawyers boycotted courts in Dadu and Jamshoro districts and staged rallies to register their protest against hike in prices of essential food items and fuel.

In Dadu, the protesters raised slogans against the government for its failure to control inflation and demanded activation of price control mechanism to provide immediate relief to common man.

Dadu DBA president Syed Jaffar Hussain Shah said that the poor and jobless were committing suicide as they could not make both ends meet due to prohibitively high prices of essential food items.

In Jamshoro, DBA president Haider Shoro said while speaking to participants in the rally that the price of flour, sugar, cooking oil and petrol had skyrocketed, increasing hardships of poor people. Rulers were blindly following IMF agenda, he said, and demanded immediate removal of corrupt rulers to provide relief to the poor people of the country.

BADIN: Members of legal fraternity boycotted courts’ proceedings in the district and held demonstrations to protest against rising prices of POL and wheat flour.

Only public prosecutors appeared in Badin courts while majority of lawyers stayed away from work.
