Officers involved in illegal constructions to face FIRs

KARACHI: The Sindh government on Saturday vowed to lodge cases against those who were found involved in illegal construction and made it clear that any officer who was suspected of facilitating such illegal activities would face the music.

The announcement came from Sindh Minister for Local Bodies Syed Nasir Hussain who while chairing a meeting regarding illegal construction issued directives to authorities concerned and asked them not to show any leniency to anyone directly or indirectly involved in such activities.

“All those who are carrying out illegal construction would be charged and police would be asked to lodge a case against them,” a statement issued after the meeting quoted the minister as saying.

“Similarly, any official of government department who is found facilitating such activities one way or the other would also face the consequences. There must be uniformed policy on these lines and no one should be treated considering his or her official status.”

He said that the officers of the respective departments and committees would be held responsible for any illegal construction in their area.

He also asked for advertisement and campaigning regarding illegal construction and dangerous buildings and asked the officials to speed up the process against the illegal activities.
