One dies of dengue fever, another 180 patients surface

ISLAMABAD: One person died of dengue fever and 180 more cases surfaced in the twin cities on Friday.

The deceased was a resident of Madina Town in Tarlai and had died at Pims, District Health Officer Dr Zaeem Zia said.

With the latest casualty, the death toll in Islamabad from dengue fever has risen to six - five were residents of the rural areas and one was from an urban locality, he added.

During the last 24 hours, 121 patients contracted dengue fever with 62 patients coming from the rural areas and 59 from the urban areas, the DHO said, adding that 16 were admitted to Federal General Hospital, six were under treatment in Holy Family Hospital, five each were in Polyclinic and Capital Hospital, three each in Pims and Benazir Bhutto Hospital and two were under treatment in District Headquarters Hospital in Rawalpindi.

Meanwhile, 59 people in Rawalpindi contracted dengue virus on Friday.

According to the health authority data, 145 beds were occupied in the three government-run hospitals. As many as 83 were occupied in Holy Family Hospital, 15 in Benazir Bhutto Hospital and 47 in District Headquarters Hospital.
