Robbers’ gang active in DHA, Clifton busted

KARACHI: Police on Friday claimed to have arrested four suspected robbers saying they belonged to a ‘Burger’ gang that committed robberies in Defence, Clifton and other areas.

SSP-South Zubair Nazeer Sheikh said that in view of increasing house robberies in Defence, Clifton and some areas of districts East and Central, the Gizri police arrested the four suspects.

He identified them as ringleader Mohammed Shahid alias burger alias boss, Mohammed Amir alias Jazu, Imran Jamil and Mohammed Faisal alias Pakori and said arms and looted valuables were also recovered from them.

The looted items include two sets of gold jewellery, one box containing expansive watches, three laptops, two tablets, one pouch containing different prize bonds, one car, etc.

The SSP told Dawn that Amir was the ‘operational leader’ of the gang and he ran his business in Dubai and also posed himself as a businessman in Karachi. He had invested money in property and other businesses and also maintained a ‘high living standard’ as he told investigators that his monthly expenditure was Rs400,000, he added.

He said the gang was active in DHA, Clifton and other areas since 2005 but Shahid Buger assumed its command in 2015. The gang ‘randomly’ selected bungalows and committed robberies in daytime.

He said the suspects were habitual criminals and booked in dozens of cases registered at police stations of South, East and Central districts.
