Another dengue patient dies in capital

ISLAMABAD: Another dengue patient died in Islamabad on Monday, taking the tally to three.

Besides, 30 new cases of the virus were also reported in the city.

District Health Officer Islamabad Dr Zaeem Zia said the dengue patient, the resident of G-12, died at Holy Family Hospital.

Of the 30 new cases, he said, 23 were reported from rural areas and seven from urban areas.

Out of these 30 patients, 13 were admitted to Holy Family Hospital, 12 to private hospitals, three to Polyclinic and two to Pims, the DHO said, adding besides, out of the 23 cases reported from rural area, 10 cases came from Koral, nine from Tarlai, two from Tarnol and one each from Alipur and Sohan.

So far 207 people contracted the virus in capital, Dr Zia said, adding out of the total 146 were the resident of rural area and 61 from urban area.

During the last 24 hours 1,497 indoor residual spraying and 2,834 fogging activities were conducted in different areas of capital to prevent the spread of dengue and eliminate the potential breeding sites of larva, the DO added.

APP adds: As many as 12 cases were reported from Rawalpindi, according to the District Coordinator Epidemics Prevention and Control (DCEPC) Dr Sajjad Mehmood.

He said Among the new cases, nine were reported from Rawalpindi Cantonment area, one each from Rawal and Potohar Town.

Dr Sajjad updated that the number of positive cases belonged to the city had been reached 94 so far while 23 patients were presently admitted to the Holy Family, District Headquarters and Benazir Bhutto Hospitals.

Dr Sajjad said that the allied hospitals had allocated 112 beds to deal with the dengue cases while in case of any emergency like situation, it would be increased.
