KARACHI: Hundreds of employees sacked recently by different government department and autonomous organisations on the orders ot the apex court, staged a protest demonstration outside the Karachi registry of the Supreme Court to highlight their plight in front of the chief justice of Pakistan.

They chanted slogans and carried banners inscribed with slogans like ‘Chief Justice please restore sacked employee, provide justice’, etc.

The sacked employees belonging to the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), Pakistan State Oil, State Life Insurance Corporation, Intelligence Bureau, Oil and Gas Development Authority, Utility Stores Corporation, etc started their journey towards the SC registry from the Karachi Press Club.

When they arrived at the Arts Council of Pakistan roundabout, a heavy contingent of police tried to prevent them from moving further. However, after talks, they were allowed to hold a peaceful protest outside the SC registry near Shaheen Complex.

Raza Chandio, one of the protesters, told Dawn that an SSGC employee, identified as Mohammed Anwar Khaskheli, became unconscious and he was immediately taken to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) in a police mobile where doctors ruled that he suffered a brain haemorrhage.

Another employee, identified as Engineer Saifullah, also became unconscious because of extreme weather condition.
