Conviction rate in crimes against women ‘very low’

LAHORE: Punjab Law and Cooperatives Minister Raja Basharat has said that Chief Minister Usman Buzdar is not satisfied with the performance of anti-harassment centers set up for women by the police across Punjab.

“Police and the Public Prosecution departments should take effective measures to improve conviction rate in crimes against women,” he said while addressing a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order at the Civil Secretariat on Thursday, says a handout.

The meeting was also attended by the IGP, additional chief secretary home, law secretary, additional IGs of CTD and Special Branch, CCPO and Lahore commissioner. Divisional commissioners and RPOs joined it virtually.

“The conviction rate for those involved in crimes against humanity is very low,” the minister regretted.
