PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan on Wednesday inaugurated ‘Asaan Insaaf Markaz’ at the Hayatabad police station here to help bring an end to the traditional ‘thana’ culture, and ensure easy access of citizens to the police.

Under the first phase of the project, four other police stations in Peshawar, including University Town, Faqirabad, Badhaber and Chamkani, would also be converted into Asaan Insaaf Marakiz. An official statement said the remaining 12 police stations in the provincial capital would also be transformed in the second phase of the project.

Later, the project would be extended to other districts, including the newly-merged areas.

The Asaan Insaaf Marakiz would have a modern reporting room, and visitors, queue, complaint and record management systems. Similarly, the Marakiz would have latest software for effective policing, maintaining record and performing other functions.

Separate desks would be established for women, transgender persons, children and elderly citizens, and all the activities at police stations would be monitored through CCTV cameras.

CM Mahmood inspected different sections of the Asaan Insaaf Markaz, and lauded the initiatives taken by the police department to bring about change in the functions of police stations.

He said the provincial government was working to strengthen the police department in line with the needs of modern era. Later, Mahmood Khan also visited Islamia Collage Peshawar and inaugurated the newly-developed hockey Astroturf completed at a cost of Rs90 million.
