Two women held, missing infant recovered

MARDAN: Police on Tuesday claimed to have recovered the missing infant from the possession of a women and her daughter hailing from Kalu Khan locality of Swabi district.

The 24-hour-old child was stolen from the nursery of the gynaecology ward of Mardan Medical Complex Hospital on Thursday last.

Syed Mohammad Afzal, the child’s father, had lodged FIR against an unknown woman and paramedical staff of the hospital over the missing infant.

SP investigations Sanaullah Khan told a press conference here that district police officer Dr Zahidullah had constituted a special team to investigate the incident and recover the baby boy.

He said the team collected CCTV footage from the hospital, and focused on two women looking suspicious. He said on a tip-off, the police raided a house located in Kalu Khan area of Swabi and recovered the infant from possession of a woman, namely Ms Niha, and her daughter, Ms Nakleem.

The police officer said during investigation, Ms Niha told them that her daughter was in distress over the death of her son sometimes back, and that she had stolen the child from the Mardan hospital for her.

Mr Sanaullah said they handed over the infant to his parents.
