Six women among 14 drug peddlers held, narcotics worth Rs30m seized

KARACHI: Malir police on Monday claimed to have detained 14 alleged peddlers, including six women, and seized 80 kilogramme narcotics worth Rs30m from their possession, said SSP Irfan Bahadur.

“Malir police carried out major actions and prevented a big supply of narcotics in the city,” added the senior officer.

The officer revealed that the held suspects were involved in supplying drugs from Balochistan to the city. He said that 70kg hashish, four kilogramme crystal (made in Tanzania) and one kilogramme heroin were seized from their custody.

They were bringing narcotics from Balochistan.

The raids were carried out in different parts of Malir. Efforts were under way to arrest their buyers.

The accused were detained from Quaidabad, Sharafi Goth, Steel Town, Sukkan and Malir City. The estimated value of the seized narcotics was over Rs30m, believed the officer. The held suspects were identified as Sajjad Shah, Javed Shah, Syed Imran, Noman, Ghulam Murtaza, Ms Isha, Ms Aliya, Mohammed Khan, Ms Zeba, Ms Sassui, Ms Rozina, Ms Shabana, Anwar Sheikh and Dur Mohammed.

“The main dealer in Balochistan has been identified and a team has been formed to arrest him,” said Mr Bahadur. Malir SP Malik Singhar would lead the team.

“It was being probed as to what purpose the money generated through narcotics was being utilized.

“In the past, drug gangs provided funding to banned outfits and the police were also probing this aspect,” said the officer. Raids were being conducted on information provided by the suspects.

Separately, City police arrested four suspects, including two street criminals, said SSP Sarfaraz Nawaz Sheikh.

The suspects identified as Abdul Kakar and Naimat Khan were arrested from main Mauripur Road as they were bringing in narcotics from Quetta. Over 11kg hashish was seized from their possession. They were involved in supplying drugs in Lyari and other areas.

In another action, Kalakot police detained two street criminals namely Abdul Karim alias Baba Chidi and Murtaza and seized pistols from their custody.

“They are habitual criminals and there are several criminal cases registered against them at different police stations of Lyari,” added the officer.
