Olympian Qazi Musarrat dies

KARACHI: Eminent hockey Olympian Qazi Musarrat Hussain died after protracted illness on Thursday. According to family sources he was 86.

The deceased, who is survived by a widow, three sons and a daughter, was laid to rest at Paposh Nagar graveyard in the evening.

Musarrat represented Pakistan at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics where the greenshirts got the silver medal after losing to India by solitary goal in the final.

An old Ravian, Musarrat was also member of victorious Pakistan team that won the gold medal at the 1958 Asian Games held at Tokyo.

The former left half was Assistant Collector in Customs (Preventive) when he was transferred to Central Board of Revenue (Judiciary) from where he retired in 1995.
