MQM-P demands better water, sanitation facilities for city

KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan said on Tuesday that the “biased” government of Pakistan Peoples Party had taken over the entire municipal governance of Karachi but failed to provide basic necessities of water and sanitation to its citizens.

Speaking at a media briefing held at Liaquatabad No 10, senior MQM leader Kanwar Naveed Jameel said that the “corrupt and biased” PPP government in Sindh was compelling the people of Karachi to take to the streets.

He warned the provincial government that the people of Karachi were running out of patience and they would no longer bear its “atrocities and injustices”.

Kanwar Naveed said the MQM-P had been demanding a separate province to be carved out in Sindh because of such “biased and racist” acts.

He said the federal and Sindh governments functioned on the basis of the tax collected from the people of Karachi. “If the Sindh government cannot solve problems of Karachi, it should stop collecting taxes from the metropolis,” he said.

He said the “biased” attitude of the Sindh government could be gauged from the fact that it was responsible for lifting garbage, but anyone could witness heaps of garbage in the city.

Sanitation, water crisis in Liaquatabad

The MQM-P leader said every street and road of district Central gave the look of a garbage dump.

He condemned the performance of the solid waste management board and district municipal corporation for heaps of garbage across Liaquatabad.

Kanwar Naveed said that the provision of potable water was the responsibility of the Sindh government, but it failed to fulfil it.

He said that residents of Liaquatabad had been facing a serious water crisis for long. He demanded clean drinking water for the people of Liaquatabad and warned that they would not tolerate this injustice.

Answering a question, he said his party was raising its voice at the centre for the solution of the problems of Karachi and Hyderabad as well as entire Sindh.
