PMT fire toll rises to eight

HYDERABAD: One more victim of Akbari Masjid transformer fire died in Karachi on Tuesday, taking the death toll to eight since July 22.

Wasim, 41, son of Mohammadi, breathed his last in a private hospital of Karachi. His brother-in-law, Shahrukh, is still admitted there.

Body of Wasim, a motorbike mechanic, was brought to Hyderabad where he was buried in the Akbari graveyard at Latifabad.

Meanwhile, a Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) spokesman announced that Hesco’s board of directors (BoD) has decided to bear the cost of medical treatment of two injured, Faraz Ansari and Shahrukh, who are now admitted in a private hospital of Karachi.

He said the hospital administration had been communicated that decision in writing by Hesco. The expenses were in addition to monetary compensation announced by the power utility, he added.
