SHELL COMPANIES

SHELL COMPANIES: Delaware is famous for allowing anonymous ‘shell companies’ that are used for tax evasion, money-laundering and such other things. Recently, the US government finally changed the law and now all such companies have to declare the name of their owners. But this information is only be available to governments. Pakistan should request access to such information about Pakistani citizens so that they may be duly taxed.

A DANGEROUS CHOWK: The China Chowk in Lahore is a dangerous roundabout as it is in the middle of everything, and, to add to the trouble, there stands a dummy aircraft in the middle of the roundabout which attracts many families to the area. People park their vehicles randomly when they take their children to visit the roundabout. The authorities concerned should shift the aircraft to some safe place, such as Bagh-i-Jinnah.

SKYROCKETING PRICES: The prices of fruits and vegetables have jumped to an extent that they have become a luxury for many, especially the poor. The other day I went to a fruit shop in the main market and was shocked to see the exorbitant prices. The district administration should keep a check on the merchants and take action against the culprits.

COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT: In the developed world, art is regarded as an important discipline related to cognitive development and self-confidence among the children. However, in Pakistan the exposure of an average school-going child to art education is not more than the replication of drawn objects, restricting the student’s ability to imagine and conceptualise. Teachers are recruited as art instructors without having any prior qualification in the discipline. Schools must acknowledge the value of art as an integral subject and should not disregard the merits it possesses.
