Cook-it-yourself: Mango iced tea

There are many kinds of drinks made of fresh mangoes that are popular with us, such as mango shake, mango lassi and many more. However, I have never had iced mango tea before, though I have had bottled fruity tea, which I really liked.

So when I came across the recipes of iced mango tea, I was intrigued and I wanted to experiment, since I enjoy trying new and different recipes. So after going through a number of recipes for mango tea, I settled for one that seemed more practical to make and had good reviews. So here I am, also sharing that recipe with you, with a bit of modification to suite my taste and some suggestions.

As for the review of how I liked it ... well, it was cool, refreshing, not your typical fruity drink though, and with subtle flavours. The mango taste was light until a chunk slipped in the mouth and the taste of tea — which you can’t really identify as tea because most of us tend to drink milky hot tea — was medium and I think just adding honey didn’t do the trick of making it sweet enough for me. Next time I will add some sugar too.

Honestly, this drink is for the experimental ones and playing with the measurements of the ingredients can easily make you come up with just the right combination for yourself.

Ingredients

• 1 cup mango puree

• 3 cups boiling water

• 2 teabags

• 1 tablespoons lemon juice

• 2 tablespoon honey or sugar, adjusted to taste

• Mango chunks for garnishing

• Ice cubes

Directions

Peel the mangoes and cut into chunks. Puree mango chunks in a blender or food processor until smooth.

In a pitcher, pour boiling water over teabags and steep for five minutes. Remove tea bags and add mango puree to the tea. Stir and leave until cool enough to be kept in the refrigerator/freezer. Chill for at least a couple of hours.

Strain tea through a sieve to squeeze out mango pulp. Stir in lemon juice and honey/sugar. Mix well and serve cold with ice and garnish with mango chunks.
