Pakistani expat robbed

RAWALPINDI: A expatriate was robbed while going home after landing at Islamabad International Airport (IIA) on Monday. Jan Mohammad, who is settled in Saudi Arabia, was intercepted by four people riding a car near Golra Chowk.

The victim told Dawn that after landing at the airport he along with his brother was coming to Islamabad in a taxi, when four people, including a woman, tried to block their way near a petrol pump.

He said after he ignored them, one of the occupants of the car, who was wearing a blue uniform posing as an official of some agency, waved his wireless set from the window signaling them to stop.

He said he thought the man was an official of the customs or a security agency and stopped the taxi. The man in uniform with his accomplices asked Jan Mohammad for a search.

“I didn’t realise that the man who was searching me like a policeman was an imposter. When he grabbed Saudi riyals 13,500 from my purse and some local currency, I got suspicious.”

He said as the suspects hurriedly boarded their car after snatching the cash, he took a photograph of them and also started a chase. But they sped away in their car.

The victim said the incident occurred at about 4:30pm and shortly afterwards he called the police on its emergency number.

“The police asked some questions and told me to come to the police station on Tuesday to get an FIR registered,” he said.
