SAHIWAL: Two women, including a lady constable, suffered critical injuries when a man attempted to kill his niece who was acquitted by a lower court in a murder case here on Saturday.

The firing incident occurred on district court premises.

Reports said Sikander Khan of Adda Sharianwala fired at his niece Qaseema who suffered bullets to her stomach. A lady constable, Tahira Munir, who was accompanying her, received a bullet to her right elbow when she tried to overpower the assailant.

Later, the attacker was captured by a lawyer, Amir, and other court visitors along with a pistol while he was trying to flee.

Qaseema’s father had been killed over some family dispute in 2020 and his brother Sikander had got a case registered against hisniece and the man she had an alleged affair with.

On Saturday, she was brought to the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Abdul Gafoor who acquitted her of murder charge.

Civil Lines police said Sikander wanted to avenge the murder of his elder brother by killing his niece who was acquitted on Saturday. Rescue 1122 shifted the injured women to DHQ teaching hospital.
