Businessman released after payment of tax dues

FAISALABAD: Following a report of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the district administration on Wednesday arrested an industrialist on charges of not paying the tax of his agricultural land and abiana. He was later released on payment of the outstanding amount.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali said the district administration initiated a series of legal action against defaulters of government dues.

He said Assistant Commissioner (City) Syed Ayub Bukhari arrested industrialist Muhammad Ashraf from his factory office for non-payment of dues of abiana and tax on its agricultural land. His name was forwarded by the FBR for collection of the agricultural land tax.

The businessman was brought to the revenue lock-up in tehsil office.

However, he paid the dues to the tune of Rs1.2 million in cash and secured his release.

A spokesman for the district administration said several notices were sent to the businessman for payment of dues and finally legal action was taken against him for non-compliance.

The DC said officials of the district administration were actively involved in recovery of government arrears in different heads and Rs4 million had been recovered from the defaulters in one day.

He asked the defaulters to pay government dues otherwise they would have to face problem.

He asked the ACs and revenue officers to expedite the recovery of government arrears and achieve the required targets by the end of the financial year.

PROTEST: Dozens of young doctors and students staged a protest demonstration on Wednesday against the National Licencing Examination (NLE) announced by the Pakistan Medical Commission.

The protest call was given by the Young Doctors Association (YDA) Faisalabad chapter.

Doctors of the Allied and DHQ hospitals did not examined patients at the OPD creating problems for the people who had come from far-flung areas.

Carrying placards and banners, the agitators gathered at the Allied Hospital and then marched towards Jail Road where they blocked traffic. They also staged a sit-in outside the Faisalabad Medical University (FMU) vice chancellor office.

Talking to reporters, the protesters said the NLE for registration with PMC after passing the MBBS was unjust and they would not accept this.

They said the medical practitioners rejected this exam and demanded the government withdraw this law.

They said they would continue their protest till the withdrawal of this restriction.

COP FOUND DEAD: Body of a missing police constable was found from a canal on Wednesday.

Police suspect that constable was killed and then his body was thrown into the Rakh Branch canal.

Deceased Rana Shahid of Jaranwala Road posted at the Madina Town police station, had been missing for the last two days as he did not reach home after duty.
