Sports Board head put on notice in contempt case

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday issued notices to the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Director General and ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) in a petition filed by the board’s deputy director general (DDG) for ‘sidelining’ him.

IHC Justice Aamer Farooq admitted the petition for regular hearing and adjourned hearing till fortnight.

Deputy DG Mansoor Ahmed Khan petitioned that despite restraining orders of the IHC, DG PSB retired Col Asif Zaman transferred him from the post of DDG Administration to a ‘non-existent’ position of DDG Academics.

He contended before the court that Zaman was victimising him since he had challenged the recruitment process of the PSB DG in December last year and the petition was pending before the IHC.

The DG PSB initiated disciplinary proceedings against the DDG.

However, the DDG termed this as victimisation and obtained a stay order from the IHC on June 9. IHC Justice Aamer Farooq in his order restrained the PSB from taking any adverse action against the DDG and issued notices to the ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) and the board DG.

The board DG on the other hand posted Khan from the post the administration department to academics.

Khan accused the board DG of victimising him for knocking the court’s doors and also filed a petition seeking contempt of court proceeding against Mr Zaman.

In the petition, Khan claimed that no such post of DDG academic existed under PSB Service Rules 2000.

“The step has been taken in haste without properly studying the rules,” he said in the petition.
