INVERSE PROPORTION

INVERSE PROPORTION: The increasing clashes among various tribes in rural Sindh are frustrating. These clashes break out on petty issues, create an atmosphere of fear, and confine people to their homes. According to a report released by the education department in 2020, Kashmore, which reports the highest number of clashes, has the lowest literacy rate in the province. It appears to be a case of inverse proportionality: less education means more clashes. Does one need to say anything more in this regard?

ROAD NETWORK: Our ancestral Rajani village, located at Garhi Yaseen taluka in Shikarpur district, has been deprived of a proper road for the past many decades. There is a muddy path for commuting that disappears with every rainfall, and the villagers have to wait for weeks for it to dry up. Also, there are no hospitals in the area, and the locals have to travel a long distance to get treatment. The village needs the immediate attention of the authorities concerned.

K.E. LOADSHEDDING: The people of Karachi are again having to put up with prolonged and frequent power cuts. There are technical problems and bottlenecks in the KE transmission and distribution system, but the management has failed to bring about any improvement over the years. It seems that those in authority are not competent enough to run the power distribution system. They must step down.

COLLECTIVE WEDDING: This refers to the letter ‘Lavish ceremonies’ (June 3). Islam has taught simplicity and prohibited lavish spending. An ideal alternative to extravagant weddings is collective wedding where several couples are married at the same time with simplicity. Such weddings are already quite common in certain communities in the subcontinent. Religious scholars can play a vital role in encouraging people to move in that direction.
