From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1971: Fifty Years Ago: Newsprint use

RAWALPINDI: The Joint Secretary and Director-General, National Affairs, Ministry of Information and National Affairs, in exercise of the powers conferred by Sub-Section (B) of Section 4 of the Newsprint Control Ordinance, 1971, and in partial modification of his notification issued on May 4 has directed that with immediate effect and until further orders no person shall use newsprint for printing or publishing any newspaper in excess of 58 pages per week for the daily morning newspapers “Metropolitan A” and 46 pages per week for the daily morning newspapers “Metropolitan B” and in excess of 24 pages per week for the daily evening newspapers brought out from the whole of Pakistan. — Agencies

[Meanwhile, as reported by agencies in Islamabad,] The U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees will provide assistance to Pakistan in arranging the return and rehabilitation of displaced persons returning to East Pakistan, a joint statement said ... The Government of Pakistan ... has agreed that a representative of the UN High Commissioner for refugees should be stationed at Dacca....
