3,500 new posts to be created in GB police

GILGIT: Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid Khan has said a summary has been sent to the federal government for approval of 3,500 new posts in the region’s police department.

He disclosed this while addressing the annual police darbar at the Police Recruitment and Training Centre, Gilgit, here on Wednesday.

Mr Khurshid said his government had decided to provide Rs14,400 annual uniform allowance to the policemen from constable to sub-inspector rank.

Like other parts of the country, monthly risk allowance from Rs1,600 to Rs2,000 will also be paid to constables up to the rank of inspector, he added.

The chief minister announced that under a package for the martyrs of Gilgit-Baltistan police, the families of the martyred policemen from the ranks of constable to inspector would get Rs10 million, from DSP/ASP rank Rs15 million and Rs20 million would be paid to the families of the martyred SPs and other senior officers. He said sons of the police martyrs would be recruited in the police department as assistant sub-inspectors.

He said required vehicles would be provided to improve the police efficiency. He also said record of the GB police stations was being computerised.

Meanwhile, addressing a function held in connection with the World Environment Day at the Karakoram International University on Wednesday, Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid said his government was taking steps to protect the mountain ecosystem.

He said the government would carry out massive tree plantation under the federal government’s 10 Billion Tree Tsunami project.
