Tragedy in Panjgur

A HEAVY rainfall recently wreaked havoc in Balochistan’s Panjgur area, resulting in the destruction of at least 80 houses and injuries to many people. A family brought two critically injured members to the hospital, but was disappointed to witness the dearth of doctors and equipment in the hospital. One 15-year-old boy lost his life after not receiving timely treatment, while the other one was taken to Karachi for treatment.

Instead of helping the poor family, the hospital staff showed a cold attitude towards them. A police personnel got into a fight with the bereaved father and registered an FIR against him. The family members tried to approach the district police officer, but he refused to meet them.

Such barbaric acts of law enforcement officials are condemnable. The local authorities must take strict action against the hospital administration and staff as well as against the police personnel.
