Issuance of driving licences resumes

RAWALPINDI: After one month’s suspension, City Traffic Police have decided to open traffic police headquarters from May 18 (Tuesday) to facilitate people in acquiring driving licences.

Like other districts of Punjab, City Traffic Police Rawalpindi had stopped offering road tests and issuance of driving licences last April to prevent the spread of coronavirus. The Chief Traffic Officer had declared the situation a ‘national emergency’ while suspending the service last month.

“The licencing branch of City Traffic Police Rawalpindi district is being opened regularly from May 18, 2021 to provide all kinds of facilities related to licencing to the public,” spokesman for the traffic police said on Sunday.

He, however, said people should ensure wearing of face masks, maintaining social distance and following other government standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“Only those who come to obtain a driving licence will be allowed to enter the traffic headquarters and service centres,” he said, adding that, “no facility will be provided to a person without a mask”.

Traffic police establishments are being fumigated with anti-coronavirus spray on a daily basis to protect citizens and traffic police staff. He also appealed to the citizens to follow instructions given by the traffic police.
