Car driver remanded to police for hitting NHA official

PESHAWAR: A local court on Friday granted to Chamkani police one-day physical remand of an accused who a day earlier had hit a National Highway Authority official with his car on motorway while ignoring a signal to stop.

Police said the accused, identified as Junaid, was being chased by the motorway police from Mardan for speeding and he hit an NHA official when they tried to stop his vehicle at the Peshawar entry point.

The CCTV footage of the incident showed that after hitting the official, the accused tried to flee, but he was apprehended by the staff present at the scene.

The injured official, identified as Adil Ali Shah, was being treated at the Lady Reading Hospital.

The accused was presented before a local court, which after hearing the arguments gave his one-day physical remand to the Chamkani police.

Separately, an attempt of bank robbery was foiled and alleged robber arrested after exchange of fire in which a policeman was also injured.

Police said that they also recovered over Rs20 million the robbers had snatched from the Bank Al Habib’s Pabbi branch during the heist.

The police said the same gang was also involved in several other such incidents in Khyber, Peshawar and other districts.
