Trailer carrying cars gets stuck on railway track

SAHIWAL: Swift action of Chichawatni Motorway police averted a major disaster by informing the railway authorities of a heavy trailer carrying new cars that accidentally got stuck on the Lahore-Khanewal track on Sunday night.

According to official sources, a Lahore-bound double-decker trailer laden with 10 brand new cars was coming from Karachi. Near Chichawatni bypass, the trailer accidentally got struck on the track while taking a turn.

The Lahore-Khanewal track runs parallel to the Lahore-Multan motorway near the bypass.

According to Motorway police Inspector Mr Rizwan, the accident occurred because the trailer driver fell asleep and instead of taking a turn ran straight over the track. Fortunately, the truck did not overturn, he added.

On being informed of the incident, teams of Chichawatni city police, Rescue 1122 and Motorway police rushed to the scene.

The sources said the Motorway police officials immediately contacted the railway authorities concerned and informed them of the situation. They also erected a barrier on the Up and Down rail tracks to avert any accident.

Meanwhile, the railway control office, on being informed of the incident, stopped all Up and Down trains at Harappa and Chichawatni stations, they added.

They said after a two-hour long operation, the trailer was removed from the track.

Police arrested the trailer driver for negligence.
