Professor’s removal

THIS is with reference to the editorial ‘Professor’s removal’ (April 17). Any nation’s rise and fall depend on the quality of education that its students get. Teachers are considered the guides and spiritual parents of students to help them lift the status of the country by imparting quality education.

The removal of a professor from Islamia College University, Peshawar, on account of alleged harassment, is indeed a laudable decision. Several cases have been reported both in public and private institutions from across the country, but university administrations are generally reluctant to discuss such cases publicly as they fear that it will negatively influence their institutions’ reputation.

Such teachers and professors, who in the garb of teaching students, make unwanted advancements deserve to be condemned by all and sundry.

Unfortunately, the situation is more or less similar in seminaries where many such cases go unreported.

If these predators were to commit such heinous crimes in the developed world, they would be handed out maximum sentences.

We need to raise our voice for students and children who have been victims of such advances by those they trusted the most, their spiritual guides … their teachers.
