First solar water filtration plant operative in Cholistan
BAHAWALPUR: The first-ever solar water filtration plant became functional at Cholistan’s Jamsar livestock farm, about 200-kms from here, on Saturday.
The plant was opened by South Punjab Secretary for Livestock Mian Aftab Peerzada, who said the project completed on a self-help basis, would provide potable water to Cholistanis and their livestock. He claimed that in future none of the human beings or their cattle will have to drink water from the open water pond of the area.
On the occasion, Additional Secretary (Livestock) Tanveer Khandhir said 150 more such solar water filtration plants would be established at various places in Cholistan with the donations of philanthropists. Eid gifts were also distributed among the employees of the livestock farm.
SUSPENDED: Taking notice of the illegal construction of a plaza, Metropolitan Corporation (MC) Administrator/Commissioner retired Capt Zafar Iqbal suspended three officials of the MC building enforcement section and ordered action under PEEDA Act against them.
The administrator also ordered the demolition of the illegal plaza building on Wasealan KPL Road here.
According to a press release, the commissioner received complaints that an illegal plaza was under construction at Wasealan Road. The MC had not approved the site plan of the building, which was being constructed illegally and three officials namely sub-engineer Firdauz Jamal, enforcement inspector Saleem Akhtar Chishty and building inspector Inamul Haq Raashid were allegedly involved as they failed to take action against the owners of the plaza.
The administrator suspended them from service and also issued a notice to demolish the plaza with action against their owners Irshadul Haq and Sohail Amin within a period of seven days.
The administrators warned that any building constructed without approval of its site plan would be demolished while responsible owners and MC officials would be taken to task.
ACCIDENT: Ten passengers were injured, three of them critically, when a bus overturned at Chandipur Adda near Khairpur Tamewali, about 45 kms from here, on Saturday.
According to Rescue 1122, the Hasilpur-bound bus overturned near Chandipur Adda due to speeding.
The injured were shifted to Khairpur Tamewali and Hasilpur hospitals. The police took the driver into custody.
MAY DAY RALLY: The employees of the district accounts office and other local institutions on Saturday staged a rally in connection with the May Day.
The rally started from the district accounts office and ended at Farid Gate where labour leaders demanded that the government improve working conditions.
